The Legend for the Name - Thiru Vaikunda Vinnagaram
Once the king named Sedhakethu along with his consort Dhamayandhi wanted to have darshan of the Almighty at Vaikundham. They have completed all their duties and prepared fire around them and underwent a severe penance. After some days they have reached Vaikundham but could not see Paramapadhanathan there. They felt very sad and asked Naradha Muni, why they could not have darshan. Naradha asked to pray to Iravadheeswarar on the bank of River Cauveri. They came down to Darasuram Iravadheeswrar Temple and begged Him for darshan. Iravadheeswrar appeared and told them that HE too was waiting for the Darshan and asked them to adjoin with HIM. After some days the Sage Uthanga Mahirishi also joined them for Darshan. At last all the four had darshan as Paramapadhanathan as he does in Thiru Paramapadham. Lord Shiva requested Him to present and bless the devotees as HE did to them. Hence the Name Vaikundha Vinnagaram. Perumal is seen with Seated on Adhiseshan with one leg folded and the other down who has Salagrama Thirumeni. It is believed that King Uparisavasu and Uthanga Mahirishi undertook penance and attined Moksham. |
